Hello Sam and All

Installer works fine on X61s with ath5 wifi using the 
gb.archive.gnewsense.org mirror on a fresh install. The very first 
screen that the mini.iso displays looks odd, with two lists of options 
superimposed and only the first one responding to keyboard input (I have 
photos if needed). After choosing Advanced Options/Expert Install it was 
a normal ncurses style screen and no further problems up to tasksel.

At the tasksel stage I unticked everything apart from system packages 
(last option) and I'm on a command line with an entry in the 
/etc/network/interfaces file allowing me to use my local wifi as per the 
Debian wiki.

Attempting to get round the dekstop issue by installing gnome-core (no 
libreoffice dependency) results in...

If I then try to install network-manager-gnome, I get a big lot of 
libraries to install. I shall try this and then try installing 
gnome-core again...

Am I going in the right direction at this point to get a viable Gnome 
desktop?
