Thank you for response. After I removed first 3 bytes from files German text 
appeared on my computer too, while I saw squares instead of Japanese. I tried 
kde-gnash and sdl-gnash. I doubt that characters are absent from the font, 
because I can see Japanese when I run the same swf on Macromedia Flash Player 
(BTW it shows it in both cases: with and without first 3 bytes). Do Gnash and 
Adobe Flash take fonts from the same place.

Gnash does support Unicode. One problem with the file you mentioned is
that the unicode texts begin with a BOM (the first three bytes of the
file). See a previous email from strk today about this very problem. No
doubt it will be fixed shortly.

If you remove the first three bytes of the text files, Gnash already
works with German. Japanese just displays squares for me, but the
characters may be absent from the font.
