Details:

configure looks for the ffmpeg version in avcodec.h; it's in version.h now.  I
changed configure to look there, which worked.

gnash 0.8.9
ffmpeg 0.7-rc1
linux kernel 2.6.36 (newer kernels have a video bug)
slackware updated daily
