Daniel,
mmap itself is not implemented by fuse. Booster type LD_PRELOAD'ble
library cannot implement mmap functionality, because it runs within
the application address space. We should see if the mail server has
option to use regular file I/O or we can patch it to do so. We should
also see if  exim, courier-mta, sendmail.. uses mmap as well.
