Very strange. Never heard about this, hence no specific fix.

Even stranger. I assume you did not change anything
within the game installation.

I don't know. If you try reinstalling, make a backup of
your enigma files, most important "enigma.score" and "state.xml".
(You can copy these files back into a working installation to
get back scores and so on later.) The files are in the "user path"
shown by the "Help" > "Paths" button sin the main menu.
