I think that’s not entirely true. My understanding is that they’re just as convenient only if you assume that all users can decide somehow that it’s time to upgrade their Emacs, go looking for packages (or build their own from source), and then manually install the package. Android users are used to apps receiving automatic updates. Automatic updates carried out by a package manager require an incrementing version code. I will send in a patch which compromises by putting a “correct” (as an Android package manager sees it) version code in a different file, where F-Droid can find it. -- Peter Oliver
