Hijacking the thread slightly, whatʼs the correct idiom to only get a
single space after an abbreviation?

    To bind e.g. @samp{a}

produces two spaces between the "e.g." and the "a" in info output,
presumably because '.' is treated as end-of-sentence.

Deleting the space between "e.g" and "@" produces zero spaces in the output.
