I suppose if the output of M-x describe-package mentioned the commit
hash in addition to the version the user would at least be aware when
the same version numbers from different archives differ. Out of
curiosity, is that what you had in mind, or something else?
Displaying the commit date in addition to the commit hash could also be
helpful.
