On a style issue, Microsoft :-( has now declared the double-space after
a period (full-stop) to be an error:

But that's Microsoft.

From the typographical point of view, it is true that one shouldn’t use double spaces. However, I’m sure Emacs’ rule for double space comes with technical reasons (distinguishing sentences from abbreviations, etc). And I’m just recapitulating the manual.
