The stretch glyph was there before the indicator, but the indicator is
a new entity.  I have no idea what the users will want, I'm just
pointing out the implications.  This sub-thread started from the use
case of the region, but the proposed solution will change the face in
many other use cases.  If that's what the users will want, fine.
