Thanks for the suggestion, but...  When I said "my font-locking", I
meant _MY_ font-locking.  I run Emacs on a Linux virtual terminal, which
has 16 colours altogether.  The only useful thing I could customize the
region face to would be a null face, but then I would have no warning of
the region becoming "active".  Currently the region face is a solid dark
blue background, which obliterates all other uses of highlighting on the
screen.
