It's not a bug for org-mode.  It's the way it's supposed to be.

But when you opened it, you would see a couple of itemized lists and
also some bold face, in what's actually the org-mode markup.

I think the reason so many people have been pushing org-mode, is that
they themselves use org-mode for the use case you have listed: create a
text document, formatted like an OpenOffice writer document would have
formatted it (that's what I would have used. Quickly outlined a document
and then exported it to the desired format).

And the people pushing org-mode in this thread don't care about having a
WYSWIG presentation of the result document when editing the document.

I know I don't care, the expected result is in my head as I type, and
the actual result rarely surprise me. Probably since the org-mode markup
is so simple.
