    Actually, applying a `display' property of "\n" on some spaces, using
    overlays that also have a `window' property would make it possible.
    Maybe impractical, tho ;-)

This would have the disadvantages that I described before,
for doing this in redisplay: editing commands would treat
those apparent line-breaks like spaces.
