I do have one suggestion: if the only reason for not accepting
Alfred's patch is that the Gfortran developers are relying on test
suites that expect the current non-standard format, and fixing the
test suite is too troublesome at the moment, perhaps the best solution
is to add a flag to Gfortran that says to output using the standard
format. Then Emacs and other tools can pass this flag to Gfortran by
default.
