If the crash is coming from my recent debugging check in eval.c,
and was not fixed by Jan's recent changes, then it is due to
a bug that is as yet unknown.
When a debugging assertion finds a problem, please do NOT suggest
removing the debugging assertion as a "workaround". That is not
constructive; in fact, it is likely to interfere with fixing the real
bug.
