I'm using a Pioneer DVR-A03 for burning CD-R/RW and DVD-R/RW. I have used
firmwares 1.65, 1.68, 1.90 and 2.00 (RPC 1 + speed unlocked) without any
problem. It works correctly too when burning 1x Imation DVD-R at 2x speed.
(cdrecord-1.10-14 and dvdrecord-0.1.2-4 on RH 8.0 with a 2.4.20 kernel)
DMA and 32 bits IO are enabled.
You should check your motherboard/IDE cables/IDE connectors/drive/power...
to verify if there is not a hardware problem.
