As you seem to be in the UK, judging by the currency, look at SVP:
http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/ where you will find Bulkpaq
x1 media at 50p including VAT (or less). And
Bulkpaq x2 at about 75p (VAT inclusive), although they seem to be out of 
stock just now.

And Datasafe DVD-RW at 87 p (incl VAT) - the price has gone up recently.

I have never heard of anyone in the UK having trouble with these discs on 
any Pioneer drive. A colleague has a DVR-104 has has had no problems. I 
have a DVR-104 at home: no problems. And a DVR-105 on my desktop: no problems.

I have no connection with SVP apart from being a customer. They have heard 
of linux, but not much more.

It sounds as if there was a batch of bad discs in the USA at some stage, 
and this seems to be the source of the rumours. Together with some Windoze 
software that rejects cheap media.
