what you look for is probably file selection, see the man page
  http://duplicity.nongnu.org/duplicity.1.html#sect9

essentially you backup '/' but include only what you want e.g.
 
  duplicity --include /folder1 --include /folder2 --exclude '**' / 
file:///tmp/testbackup/

..ede/duply.net
