Thanks guys, this was indeed what had happened. I took over these scripts from someone, and this is my first exposure to duplicity.
Great program, I am starting to use it in my other systems.

i second that. use the same parameters as used when creating the backup. you could save yourself headache and simply use duply. ..ede/duply.net
