If all you do is to use FTP to read a giant file in which your encrypted FS 
resides that should work given your FTP server can resume downloads (you need 
random access for an FS to make any sense).

For the Linux users, there is the Network Block Device 
http://nbd.sourceforge.net/ (see also http://www.it.uc3m.es/ptb/nbd/) but 
that needs software on the server, as well.
