Hello,

I have been using duplicity with the S3 backend to backup my iPhoto library for a while now. I think all I had to do was a checkout from subversion and now I have a script that I run every now and then:

  export S3KEY=XXXXX
  export S3SECRET=xxxxx
duplicity-bin --no-encryption /Volumes/Thyme/iPhoto\ Library s3+http://xxxx

Thanks, I think I have everything in place: duplicity, bitbucket, etc.

But I'm still missing something regarding understanding how S3 works.

What is the URL I should be using at s3+http://xxxx ?

Should it be "s3+http://s3.amazonaws.com";?

And then how do I specify my personal account and how is it stored on Amazon? The only thing I've been able to figure out so far is how to gen my key and secret.

Maybe I'm just being dense, but this Amazon S3 service does not seem to be very intuitive at all.

Thanks again,
DW

It was very simple and makes me feel secure, though I have never had to restore anything.

    Hi all,

Can anybody point me to links, how-to's, tutorials, etc. on how to get
started with Amazon's S3, and then using duplicity to back up to S3?
Amazon's site leaves a lot to be desired in the way of getting going.
I've only found a couple of google hits on a few folks who are using
duplicity w/ S3, but they only talk about how great it is, and don't
give any details on how they got it going.

I'm signed up on my Amazon account for S3, but can't for the life
    of me
even figure out what the heck to do next -- how do I log on? What
    is the
interface? What kind of client software do I need if any? Can I
    shell in?

I'm running FreeBSD 6.2, but I don't suspect that makes much of
difference -- unless it matters in the way of client software I guess.

    Personally, I'm almost sold on rsync.net <http://rsync.net>
    anyway, but I'm committed to
    giving both a whirl.

    Thanks for any info!
