Oh, I understand. 2.1 has the upgrade bug, 
This was in the release notes:

Known issues for this release:
   Update keeping preferences is broken, use version 2.1.1 for this.

Use the latest from Git, I never break it.

well, hardly ever. And it does have bug fixes.
