Ok. I see. I was able to open it by unzipping it first. We should look into doing this in denemo sometime. I wonder if libmusicxml does this for us. http://code.google.com/p/libmusicxml/

At least that was what I found out this morning.
Can you confirm that (open the .mxl file in your browser and extract the
files in the archive then apply Denemo to the .xml file).
