Follow-up Comment #1:

If Gtk supports this case-insensitive navigation then it will be something
that can be set as part of your theme. The widget involved seems to be a
GtkTreeViewColumn, but this property of it is not mentioned in the docs.
Bottom line - this is a Gtk bug, not a denemo one.
