File->Open and select file type midi or mid
to import a midi file. Denemo has been improving rapidly, try to use
a recent version (0.8.12) or better still the current development (in
git) which gives you a zoomed display and several systems in the
display.

I think this is supposed to describe the format of the denemo xml
manual, I don't know if it was ever actually set up, or what it quite
would do if it was:(
