I am not the best person to fix this, but I note that I have libltdl on
my (Debian) system -  it describes itself as

GNU libltdl, a system independent dlopen wrapper for GNU libtool

So you have to install something (libtool? what's that?)
Perhaps Jeremiah can comment on why it tried to create ./etc/denemo ?
On the plus side, if you liked 0.7.7 you will *love* 0.8.0 ...
