It looks like you don't have enough packages installed on your Ubuntu
system to be able to compile and link any programs. This is not an
xboard issue.
Try doing "apt-get install build-essential". That should get you
farther. Generally, though, it's up to you to install all the packages
on your system that are needed to build a program...
