It was a really silly mistake; I have written bad C,
causing undefined behaviour, reusing an id subject to
side effects without a sequence point.
My glibc applied the side effects at the time I
expected, while the newer libc changed the order of
evaluation.
I have checked the rest of the code and there should
be no other similar mistakes.

However, I am fixing a bug and missing feature in the
spawning API, where only one callback function can be
registered for capturing process stdout and process
stderr.
The new API for registering callbacks (very very
similar if not identical) allows an arbitrary number
of callbacks to be registered.
It will be ready in 1-2 days.
