agreed - probably a cut/paste error from my hex/octal/decimal converter,
e.g.,
$ hex 542
542: 542 01036 0x21e text "\002\036" utf8 \310\236
(the choice of 01036 wasn't entirely arbitrary, as you might notice from
reading the "magic" file)
