You are wrong here. The Makefile produced by our configuration includes

   LIBS = -ldl -lresolv -lnsl

thus it is our source that enforces linking agains "libdl" and "libnsl"
on GNU/kFreeBSD. The above line appears when I build our Git HEAD.
