Yes, see this:
address@hidden ~$ ls -l /usr/bin/gcc
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 7 4 Feb 2010 /usr/bin/gcc -> gcc-4.2
address@hidden ~$ ls -l /usr/bin/cc
lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 7 4 Feb 2010 /usr/bin/cc -> gcc-4.2
So I don't know why it fails to compile.
