According to Mark Buckaway:

An UNDI driver would be nice, but (1) I don't trust UNDI drivers [hard
experience with Intel PXE 1.0], (2) UNDI drivers need to be called in
real mode, IIRC, which makes them awkward *and* slow, and (3) the case
I'm working on isn't PXE anyway; I'm booting from CD or floppy, then
loading a kernel over the net with TFTP. Trust me, I really *do* need
to do this.

The UNDI driver would be a good alternative to have in hand, even if
it doesn't always work. I'd be happy to help test it.
