Follow-up Comment #20, bug #58736 (project groff):

As Bjarni points out in comment #12, most of the patch is irrelevant to this
bug, largely making cosmetic changes to debugging output.  And the number and
distribution of these changes makes it difficult to focus on the functional
changes relevant to this patch.

So I created a new patch that contains only the pertinent changes, and also
incorporates the correction Bjarni points out in comment #14.  In addition to
discarding a lot of Bjarni's patch, I've added a few .rr requests after some
registers' useful lifetime (next_y_pos, y_pos_trap, reached_footer, nr_traps)
so as not to litter the namespace.

This revised patch is purely for academic purposes, as comment #19
demonstrates that the patch is invalid.
