When I play I'm sure I put the chequers I hit nearer to me, although I'm a bit confused. 3dfibs and javafibs do too. I agree that single chequers tend to be put near the centre (especially in books).
So perhaps things are more standard now and gnubg is the only one this way around?
I'm against adding an option as I think this would only confuse things. Jon
