Interesting that .sgf supports variations. This could be quite useful. I
sometimes want to mess about looking at different aspects of a position,
but if you do that it destroys the current game record. It would be nicer
if your musings were stored as variations and the original match
preserved.

Examples of things I do include:
What if White's prime were further advanced?
What if I had that spare from the midpoint covering my blot?
What would the correct play be for money/DMP?
