Hi again,

thanks Andreas and Bruno, in the end I used msgcat --use-first
with the 5.0 file first (as it contains more “better” trans-
lations, whereas the 4.8 file contains some for msgids that
are actually in the code) then post-processed it a little
with KBabel to test things. I’ll hand the rest of the un- or
fuzzily translated strings off to a cow-orker then.

In the end, I spotted some rather weird translations anyway
so a full “audit” of the file is due at some point in the
future, or we just need users to report weirdnesses in the
translations (easier if they know the en version too) so
the effort of using the other msg* tools is too much for
too few gain.
