can't open 0.10.40 tarball of gettext

Yesterday I found that "tar -tzf ..." failed partway
through the gettext 0.10.40 tarball (and I went
& fetched a new copy from the digex mirror, and then
one from the ftp.gnu.org site, and the problem
reoccurred with both), and "tar -xzf ..." also failed.

Any chance the 0.10.40 tarball is corrupt on the gnu
distribution site ? (Although that seems difficult to
believe, actually.)

I'm using tar & gzip on a cygwin distribution, versions
unknown (I can't access that box now), but probably at
least tar 1.13.19 and gzip 1.3.2 and bzip2 1.0.2.
(I think it is a .tar.gz file, but can't recall definitely.)
