Hmm... that very much looks like a serious hardware instability
problem rather than anything else, to me.  Especially that about about
"at different times".  It doesn't explain a consistent error exist
status from 'ld', sure, but neither does that speak of an essentially
rock-solid system on which any remaining cases of erroneous behaviour
must obviously be caused by bugs in the software.
