If this were so, it would be a problem because the Solaris libintl.so
doesn't define the ngettext() function which some programs
(e.g. msgmerge) need.

But I cannot reproduce it. Can you tell which compiler (gcc or cc) and
which CFLAGS and LDFLAGS and configure options you used, whether you
have LD_LIBRARY_PATH set, and what the shell command
"ldd `which msgmerge`" displays?
