Follow-up Comment #4, bug #59037 (project pspp):

If I recall, this flag is intended just to spit out extra diagnostic messages
(which would probably cause make check to fail).   But at the moment it seems
to do very little.

I wouldn't recommend using it.   I'll probably remove this "feature" in the
near future.
