I agree with you here entirely, in that the mods
should largely be those who have taken the time (and
lets face it, to write even 4 good articles would take
a lot of time) and effort to contribute, should be the
ones, rather than some lottery draw, or having people
let in because they beg and bribe.

I'm not overly sure as to how this would work, as when
you'd join I suppose you'd specify some general
interests and areas of expertise. The problem being
that what if there isn't a moderator around at the
time who has an area thats submitted. Lets say that
for a month or two we get innundated with science and
maths, and then out of the blue comes an article on
the history of the European Hundred Years War? I would
suggest that mods just try and keep to areas they know
about, but can review other articles if the need
arises.

This could get very messy. I think categorisation
should be fixed, with a team set up to monitor it and
add categories every month or so as they see fit.
