I did this and compiled it on my FreeBSD machine. I can confirm that
it indeed does the trick: this version works just fine for me.

  roadrunner:~> uname -srm
  FreeBSD 8.0-STABLE amd64
  roadrunner:~> bison --version
  bison (GNU Bison) 2.4.2.2-311b
  ...

  241 tests were successful.
  2 tests were skipped.

Looks good. The skipped checks were releated to Doxygen documentation.

This is a lot better than the 2.4.2 version that scored:
  ERROR: All 243 tests were run,
  227 failed unexpectedly.

P.S. The 'make check' step only works with GNU make however (this
probably has been so for ages, but I don't generally run make check
and the regular compilation works fine with BSD make).
