Details:

I am having problems writing data to the eeprom.
Attempting to write any ihex/bin/srec file to my
atmega128 will always lead to a verification error
at byte 0x01:

avrdude: verifying ...
avrdude: verification error, first mismatch at byte 0x0001
         0x01 != 0x00
avrdude: verification error; content mismatch

*However* : Writing data to the eeprom from within
the terminal mode works just fine.

Please let me know what other information I can provide
that might help. I really want/need to fix this.
