I tried to setup a simple serial communication (ponyser) with an atmega32. Since my laptop has no native serial interface I used an usb2serial converter (well supported by Linux!).From the docs I read that there are some issues about usb-to-serialconverting, am I right?
I use a Prolific-based USB<>Serial converter with avrdude and have no problems whatsoever. OTOH I inadvertantly got a Cypress-based converter and it would CRC-error left and right, couldn't program anything. I got the local shop to get some of the Prolific-based ones back in (2nd unit, etc.) and they still work just fine.
