Cool - I tend to agree. I went ahead and committed my patch. If this
causes any of the other platforms any problems, please let me know
though I suspect it's safe since it's wrapped in what I thought were
pretty Mac-specific #defines that are pre-defined in the Mac's native
GCC compiler as it comes from the Apple development tools package.
What I'm not 100% sure of is if those same defines would be present if
I built a new GCC from source, for example, if I wanted to use a later
version of GCC than provided by Apple.
