Why don't you both just use AVRMacPack? http://www.obdev.at/products/avrmacpack/download.html Its built pretty regularly and includes all of the same patches that WinAVR uses. I was able to build avr-gcc and binutils but it is a pain, especially if you want to be binary identical with someone else, and want to keep up to date.
