A quick search (keyword ATmega256) at www.atmel.com finds another document
http://www.atmel.com/dyn/resources/prod_documents/doc4004.pdf
which has a more detailed feature list. For mega256 VCC is from 2.7 to 5.5
volts as with most of the megas and the clock speed from 0 to 16 Mhz, the
same with most megas. L-versions are not listed as separate chips in this
table. So make your own conclusions on that...
