[avr-gcc-list] using EEPROM

Hi,
I need to be able to make my robot write to the EEPROM during calibration mode 
and read from it at the start of the actual program.
Can someone explain how to use __attribute__ ((section (".eeprom")))?
Does anyone have an example of writing to or reading from the EEPROM?
