"files left in build directory after distclean"

When running "make distcheck", I get:

        ERROR: files left in build directory after distclean:
        ./lib/antlr/GNUmakefile
        ./lib/antlr/antlr/GNUmakefile
        ./lib/antlr/src/GNUmakefile

What's going on here? Aren't these files that automake should "know"
about and deal with appropriately? I'm using automake 1.7.7.
