The main reason to put .info files in the source tree, as far as I know,
is that .info files should always be included in distributions. (With
the sole exception of Texinfo :), but that's a different story.)
Can't you teach your tool to exclude *.info* and anything else you want
to ignore? Or, run your tool in a distribution with the .info's
removed?
